Movement for Modern Life is a subscription based service offering online yoga, that is on demand videos.
Their large selection of classes are available on the internet.
They charge a small monthly fee so they can be ad free and still remain top quality.
Movement for Modern Life brings yoga right to you whenever is convenient for you, in your living room, on your holiday, wherever you are.
You start by stretching the body, You’ll soon see that the mind will also benefit.
What are Courses and Challenges?
They have taken the trouble out of searching for Movement and Yoga videos.
They have devised online yoga courses for you so you decide what you want to focus on, they will provide a program of yoga for you.
If you’re just beginning, or just starting again, and need motivation, you can choose to receive a daily email with a class for that day.
This is great if you want to commit to practicing daily.
Your first challenge email will arrive in your inbox at 6am (GMT) on the morning after you sign up.
You can work through the courses and challenges at your own pace.
Just untick the box when signing up and work through the classes when it suits you.
Not all the Challenges are suitable.
For example, please note that the Handstand challenge requires a level of strength and flexibility which does not make it suitable for all.
With all of their videos, if you feel that the video is beyond you, do not push yourself.
It’s OK to stay on day one of the course or challenge all week!
The most important thing is that you commit to whatever you do, and that you enjoy your practice.
How Do I Watch The Online Yoga Videos and Practice Yoga?
Try to practice at the same time every day.
Try to practice in the morning or the evening at a particular time.
It helps to set out your mat, even your yoga clothes and anything you need in the living room ready for your home practice so you don’t have to think too much before you start up.
See if you can establish a calming environment, shut the kids/pets/partners out of the room, turn off your phone, turn off the radio.
You may want to practice lowing lights or light a candle to establish that yoga studio feel which will help you to push yourself.
It is usually recommended to practice yoga on an empty stomach, but make sure you’re not so hungry you’re passing out.
Wear whatever you can move comfortably in.
You don’t need to invest in expensive yoga clothes.
Choose a video that is right for your level of experience.
Part of your yoga journey is to know yourself, so practice this by being realistic with your level of experience.
Don’t do a practice which is going to harm you.
Only you know your body, your injuries and your experience.
If you have an advanced practice, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself.
I recommend you watch the video first to familiarize yourself with it before you practice.
Then you can practice mostly to the audio, which enables your practice to deepen as you won’t be craning your neck to look at your teacher.
You can fast-forward or pause the video as you like.
Another possibility is, if you are using a laptop, tablet or smartphone, to move your devise around with your practice.
You might want to start with it at the front of your mat.
Then pause it and move it to the side for side postures and for poses like downward dog, you may even prefer to move it so you can see it behind you.
It’s up to you.
Always give yourself a relaxation/meditation after a practice.
This will help the yoga integrate into the body and is an integral part of yoga.

How Will I Know If My Alignment Is Correct?
They understand your concerns about alignment when you don’t have a teacher present.
Their teachers are very clear and thorough in their instruction, they know that it can be difficult to follow instruction, especially during some of the more challenging poses and sequences.
At Movement for Modern Life they recommend that you also visit your ‘live’ yoga teacher regularly.
Your teacher will advise you on your alignment and may give you adjustments.
All of our teachers on this site are available for classes.
They recommend you see them in the Studios, in Workshops or whichever regular classes you can make it to.
These online yoga classes are great, however, for those occasions you find it tricky to get to your teacher.
We also recommend using an alignment mat during your home practice .
This will ensure that you keep symmetry during your home yoga practice. It is easy to slip into incorrect alignment without a teacher on hand to correct you.
We recommend using an alignment mat such as Liforme mats.
What Music Do You Use?
The track is called Stop Breathing by the ulta-talented Trip-hop producer Ribbonmouthrabbit AKA Tamas Toth featuring Innereyeful AKA Andy Kent.
You can find them on Soundcloud.
How Do I Watch My Classes On My Home TV?
Most devices will allow you to ‘cast’ browser content including videos to an external screen such as your TV.
It needs to be a ‘smart’ TV or a TV with a ‘dongle’.
The dongles connect to the HDMI port on the TV and offer their own services as well as allowing casting.
Most modern TVs are ‘smart’ already, you will need to check if yours supports ‘casting’ or ‘mirroring’.
My Screensaver Keeps Coming On During My Practice.
On most Windows systems you can right-click anywhere on the desktop, click on “Properties,” then click on the “Screen Saver” tab at the top of the dialog box.
From there you can disable your screen saver or adjust the settings so it will not come on for over an hour.
For most Mac systems, go to the Apple icon and click “System Preferences”.
Under “Hardware”, click “Energy Saver”.
Then set the computer and display to sleep after 1.5 hours or more, or choose “Never”.
